Transition
Transition to William Lovell
Transition plays a fundamental role in supporting students to quickly settle in to life at William Lovell C of E Academy.
We engage in a partnership approach with our local primary schools to ensure students and their families experience a positive and successful transition process. Our Y6 Primary Engagement Programme sees our specialist teachers regularly visiting local primary schools to get to know students and offer their expertise.
In addition to the summer term transition visits, common to most secondary schools, to further support year 6 to 7 transition, our popular Summer School gives students the opportunity to get to know their future peers and teachers, familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and experience life at the academy, which ensures every child feels like a member of The William Lovell family, long before they join in September.
When our new students begin their William Lovell journey in September, it is in our dedicated Year 7 Zone. Students have base classrooms in a dedicated Y7 area, together with their own playground and canteen arrangements enabling a highly supported and nurturing transition experience.
Transition is an ongoing journey, not limited to new students joining us in Year 7. Throughout their time at the academy, students are supported through exceptional pastoral care which focuses on their personal development and wellbeing, in addition to their academic achievement.
Through close liaison with the Local Authority, other schools, academies and colleges and education/skill providers the region, we to ensure a smooth transition to post-16 education and ensure students are confident in the next phase of their education.
