Leaders Cultivating Excellence

Ofsted recognised that the school has the right priorities and the right strategies in place for improvement. Inspectors were clear that leaders “have identified and prioritised suitable actions for improvement” and are working with the trust and external partners to deliver these.

Personal Development in Full Bloom

Strong personal development: Our ethos of excellence, growth and responsibility was praised as being “at the heart of the personal development programme,” helping pupils become “positive, active citizens.” Pupils develop “a secure understanding of fundamental British values” and benefit from a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom.

inclusion at the heart of the school

Leaders have strengthened systems so that pupils receive the support they need “to belong and to be successful,” supported by increasingly effective teamwork and training. The inspection highlights clear strengths in the school’s support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders have “established a clear framework for identifying and assessing the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)” and have strengthened how this information is used to guide staff in supporting pupils to “belong and to be successful.”

In addition, it was clear that staff receive good training to help them identify and meet pupils’ needs effectively, and “effective systems ensure that staff teams plan together to support pupils” when needs arise. As a result, pupils with SEND benefit from increasingly well-targeted support, including strong pastoral care and effective collaboration with external agencies, enabling them to attend, engage and prepare for their next steps with confidence.

These strengths matter. They show that William Lovell is a school where pupils are safe, known as individuals, and supported to grow both academically and personally.

Shaping students to Grow

Pupils receive “personalised careers education and guidance” which helps them to be “ambitious and well informed about their next steps.” Pastoral support was recognised as a strength, with “knowledgeable, caring staff” at the heart of what we do. Pupils are part of a “friendly school” where they “feel safe and can be themselves” and enjoy “positive relationships with caring staff, who treat them with ‘unconditional positive regard’.”
