At William Lovell Church of England Academy, we are committed to nurturing every student academically, morally, and spiritually, rooted in our Christian foundation and core values of Excellence, Growth, and Responsibility. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) programmes embody this vision, helping students flourish as thoughtful, compassionate individuals ready to contribute positively in their chosen careers, to their community and the wider world.
PSHE and RSE are at the heart of our curriculum, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and integrity. These subjects foster personal development, promoting resilience, moral reasoning, and healthy decision-making. In line with our Christian ethos, they encourage mutual respect, empathy, and forgiveness, preparing pupils for life in modern Britain by embedding the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance. By addressing topics like mental health, online safety, and healthy relationships, we empower students to make positive choices that honour themselves and others, ensuring they grow into responsible citizens who shine as lights in their communities and their chosen industries.
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum weaves in our values seamlessly: Excellence through high expectations in learning about well-being and ethics; Growth by building character and resilience; and Responsibility as a moral compass guiding respectful interactions and societal contributions. Collective worship and enrichment activities reinforce these, drawing on Biblical teachings to inspire students to “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
We connect PSHE and RSE to environmental stewardship, reflecting our commitment to caring for God’s creation. Lessons explore sustainability, climate action, and ethical consumption, linking personal health to planetary well-being. Through projects like eco-initiatives and community service, students learn responsible citizenship, fostering a sense of duty to protect the environment for future generations.
Recognising the profound impact of PSHE, RSE and Careers education, we have invested significantly in staff training an resources to ensure expert, sensitive facilitation. Our teachers undergo specialised professional development, aligning with national guidance and our inclusive ethos. Additionally, we have forged partnerships with trusted organisations to deliver bespoke opportunities like workshops, guest speakers, and tailored programmes. These collaborations enrich learning, providing real-world insights and supporting diverse needs, so every child feels known, valued, and empowered to reach their potential. William Lovell Church of England Academy proudly partner with Unifrog, an online PSHE/careers platform that supports students alongside the rich offer in school. Parents and carers also have access to this platform as we work collaboratively to open doors for our young people to reach their potential in whatever industry they choose to pursue.
Together, these elements create a supportive environment where students thrive. For more information on RSE, contact our Reserved Teachers, Ms E Palmer and Mrs E Bennett.
