At William Lovell Church of England Academy, safeguarding is the foundation of our school community, deeply rooted in our shared values of excellence, growth, and responsibility.
Just as a healthy natural environment relies on the care and attention of every living organism, the safety and wellbeing of our students depend on the vigilance and commitment of everybody connected to our school.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you are a member of staff, a student, a visitor, or a family member, your awareness and actions help cultivate a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment where all young people can thrive.
We are dedicated to creating a culture where students are secure, valued, and empowered to speak up when something is wrong. Our safeguarding practices are designed to protect children from harm and promote their welfare, ensuring that every child can grow confidently and flourish in our school.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs Bennett, Headteacher. Mrs Bennett leads our safeguarding team with Mrs Rose, Assistant Headteacher and SENDCO. Together they ensure that all concerns are addressed swiftly and sensitively. The safeguarding team is supported by trained deputies and a wider network of staff who are all equipped and trained to respond to safeguarding issues.
If you have any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please contact the school via the ‘report a concern’ tab at the top of this page. This will go straight to the safeguarding team. You can also telephone the school during the school day during opening hours from 08:00-16:00.
Safeguarding is most effective when we work together as a community. We encourage open communication between school and home, and we welcome the involvement of families and carers in promoting a safe and nurturing environment. All visitors are asked to follow our safeguarding procedures, including signing in at reception, wearing identification, and reporting any concerns. We make no apologies for strictly adhering to the requirements of KCSIE, including strict safer recruitment processes, regular health and safety checks and bespoke training for all staff.
Our school is a place where students are encouraged to grow—not just academically, but emotionally and socially. Through our curriculum, pastoral care, and enrichment opportunities, we help students develop the resilience, empathy, and responsibility they need to navigate the world safely.
Together, we nurture a community where safeguarding is second nature—where every child can flourish in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.
