A letter from Ofsted

William Lovell Church of England Academy last Ofsted inspection was completed on 11/12/23 and has made the most progress with the current leadership team in over a decade. The report highlights the school's commitment to inclusivity, aspiration, and pastoral care. It shares how the school takes pride in its achievements and the positive impact it has on its students. We recognise and have prioritised the areas we still need to improve as with all schools.

"Pupils are polite. They enjoy positive relationships with staff. Pupils are tolerant and understand diversity."

Positive Student Relationships and Behaviour: The report acknowledges the students' positive demeanor, politeness, and their enjoyment of positive relationships with staff. The school's commitment to tolerance and understanding of diversity is commendable, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all.

"There is a caring culture that is underpinned by the school’s Christian ethos."

Inclusive and Aspirational Culture: The report emphasises the school's inclusive and aspirational environment, underpinned by its Christian ethos. Students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), benefit from robust pastoral support. The caring culture is evident, with students feeling safe, trusted, and well-cared-for by the staff. Positive relationships are fostered, and disruptions to learning are handled calmly and effectively.

"The school has worked hard to develop the curriculum to meet the needs of all pupils."

Curriculum Development and Opportunities: The school has made significant strides in developing a curriculum that caters to the needs of all pupils. Opportunities to study a broad range of subjects at key stages 3 and 4 are provided, with a particular focus on the English Baccalaureate. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for life in modern Britain, integrating themes of British values, diversity, and equality into subjects such as history, religious education (RE), and English.

"Staff are proud to work at the school. They work together to create a positive environment for pupils to flourish. The school has improved rapidly."

Proud Staff and Rapid Improvement: The pride of the staff in their work is evident, contributing to the positive environment where students can flourish. The report acknowledges the school's rapid improvement, a sentiment echoed by both pupils and parents.

"The school needs to ensure that all curriculums are well sequenced to support pupils to build on prior knowledge and gain a secure understanding of what they are learning."

Areas for Improvement: While celebrating the school's successes, the report also provides constructive feedback on areas for improvement. The curriculums in a small number of subjects need better planning to support students in building on prior knowledge. The report suggests the need for stronger routines to check students' understanding systematically.
