Starting secondary school is an exciting new chapter, and at William Lovell Church of England Academy we work hard to ensure every child feels at home from the very beginning. Our Year 7 transition programme is designed to create a strong sense of belonging, build confidence, and give students the best possible start to their journey with us.
We work in close partnership with our local primary schools, building relationships long before students arrive in September. Through regular visits, joint activities and familiarisation days, our future Year 7s get to know our teachers, explore our site, and start forming the friendships that will help them settle in quickly. Our dedicated transition team work closely with primary schools to understand student needs, SEND support and to really get to know our newest cohort. In addition, we hold a transition evening for families where we sit down together for a meal and really get to know you and your child.
A highlight of our transition offer is our dedicated ‘Summer School’, where students can take part in fun learning challenges, team-building activities and creative projects. Just like young plants finding the right conditions to thrive, this extra time helps them grow in confidence and resilience before the term begins.
Our values of Excellence, Growth and Responsibility underpin everything we do. Excellence means setting high expectations from the start; Growth is about nurturing knowledge, skills and character over time; Responsibility is about caring for ourselves, each other, and the world around us.
By the time September arrives, our new students already have their roots planted firmly in the William Lovell community, ready to flourish academically, socially, spiritually and personally.
We are an inclusive school and we welcome applications from all families. Please download our admissions form for mid-year transfers.
